Staying on top of all of the social media channels is challenging! Recently, I co-presented with Kelly McLaughlan of KME.Digital on Facebook and the key steps for Facebook admins to keep in mind. We were working with the Loudoun County Volunteer Fire & Rescue teams to highlight what they could do to expand their reach and engagement.
1. Add Additional Input When Sharing
- When sharing other pages’ posts, a good practice is to add some input about why you are sharing, etc. rather than just simply sharing alone.
2. Use Hashtags to Gain Visibility
- Helpful for the user to categorize the topic of the post
- Makes that post findable for those hashtags if someone is searching that.
- Use hashtagify to see which ones are used
3. Use Quality Photos – For high res photos, use websites like these:
- istockphoto (paid)
- stocksnap.io (free)
- Canva (free and paid options)
4. Tag Others to Increase Visibility
- Use the @ symbol to tag businesses, partners, people
5. Make Your Post Easy to Read
- If you have a few sentences – add white space by pressing Enter and make it easier to read and scan
6. Use Messaging that Engages
- Highlight number of attendees
- Use a “Did You Know” fact
- Excite people with details – which restaurants, who is the event for (families)
7. Create an Event Page for Your Events
- Use a great photo and tag partners
8. Consistent Timing
- Do certain content each day to make it easy to think of what to post (think of the top three things you want to build a reputation around and start there)
- Use #TBT Throw Back Thursday to highlight past events
- 3X a week at a minimum (backdate if you need to occasionally)
